I believe one’s life should both usable and useful. That’s why I am part of CHIFOO. A resident of SE Portland since 1979, I am firmly entrenched in my adopted community. I graduated from PSU in Graphic Design in 1982, worked for MNI, an international consulting firm from 1983-88, and then began my work at Tri-Met in 1989. While mastering the art of transit design, it was there I did my first web work, beginning with the maps for fledgling http://www.tri-met.org in 1995. My excitement about this new area of design work led me back to PSU to earn a Multimedia Professional’s Certificate in 1998. In 2002, my designs for the newly-rebranded trimet.org brought transit trip planning to the home page and won an award from the FTA. Other innovative projects I worked on while there include the first online store, interactive map interface, screen savers, games, and animations for airport kiosks. But my favorite project I worked on is Transit Tracker for cell phones—a tool that allows bus travelers to find out if the bus is coming on their web-enabled cell phones. After TriMet, I worked at OHSU Center for Women’s Health as their webmaster and designer. In addition to print design work, I maintained http://www.ohsuwomenshealth.com and http://www.ohsu.edu/obgyn and developed http://www.gnprh.com for the Global Network of Perinatal And Reproductive Health. While at OHSU, I helped implement email marketing, online surveys and was the first to do audio podcasting on campus. Sirius Media, is my free-lance business performing online marketing miracles for small businesses, health professionals, artists and musicians.
