How do your designers and developers work together?

How do designers and developers work together in your organization? My colleague, designer Jonathan Follett (Hot Knife Design, Inc.), and developer Dan Pickett (Enlight Solutions) are conducting an online survey of the design and development community in advance of their joint presentation at Refresh Boston on April 29th, 2009.

Here’s what they say:

How do your designers and developers work together? As a small cooperative of designers and developers, we’re studying the processes and best practices we’re all using. Our findings will be presented at Refresh Boston on April 29th, 2009. We will also share our findings online after the presentation.

Please help us out by donating 5-10 minutes of your time and expertise to this survey.

As our own upcoming program (“Making Sense of User-Centered Design and Agile”) and workshop (“All Together Now: Blending Interaction Design and Agile Development Techniques”) demonstrate, there is certainly a lot of current interest in making two of our industry’s most successful processes—Agile Development and User-Centered Design—work together smoothly. We’ll have to await the results of Dan and Jon’s survey (which they have said they intend to publish sometime after Refresh Boston) to get a clearer picture on whether or not people in our field think that this blending is working or not.

In the meantime, please take a moment to participate in the survey yourself, or learn more about their presentation, “Making Agile Work for Design.”
