About Us

CHIFOO (pronounced 'ky - FOO'), the Computer-Human Interaction Forum of Oregon, is the local chapter of ACM SIGCHI, the ACM's Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction. The ACM is the Association for Computing Machinery, the national professional society for computing and information processing.

Purpose

CHIFOO's purpose is to provide a mechanism for exchanging ideas, and organizing workshops & similar educational activities related to computer-human interaction.

Membership

All persons in Oregon and Southwest Washington who are interested in computer-human interaction are invited to join CHIFOO.

CHIFOO Membership Policy
Rev 2.1 - January 2001

Member: Anyone with an interest in programs related to computer-human interaction, human factors and computing system user interfaces may join. CHIFOO does not restrict membership to ACM members, SIG-CHI members or other affiliated clubs or organizations.

Term: The term is set by the Executive board and is no longer than one year. The term starts on October 1st of each year and ends the following year on September 30th.

UPDATE (May 2002): The term is being shifted to the calendar year (January 1st through December 31st), so the term for the upcoming transition year will start on October 1, 2002 and end on December 31, 2003.

Dues: Membership dues are $20.00 (US) per term and are due at any time during the membership term. Members who want to sign up must be notified about the membership term dates at the time of signing.

Benefits: Membership benefits include reduced cost to programs, email announcements, job postings, newsletters, inclusion in social events and recognition of membership at regional and national ACM events.

Sign up policy: Prospective members may sign up at anytime by getting information for membership from this Web site. They may also sign up at programs. By doing so they are often entitled to reduced program entrance fees or may be able to attend for free. Members may pay cash or check. CHIFOO cannot take credit or debit cards. Non-members deciding to attend all the programs may do so without joining CHIFOO by paying the full program rate. They will not be credited for programs attended, as we do not track attendance.
