With Windows XP Media Center Edition, Microsoft Corporation has broken new ground in the way people interact with PCs to enjoy TV, music, photos, and video, and fulfills customer needs by making it easy to access the computer’s entertainment capabilities from across the room. As consumers become more enamored with Media Center, they want these experiences anywhere in the home, regardless of the PC’s location. With Windows Media Center Extender Technologies, consumers can access these experiences from anywhere in the home. Extender Technologies provides access to rich content and services, and enables devices throughout the home to use the PC’s processing and storage capabilities, creating unprecedented choice and access to content. Creating a home media ecosystem presents unique challenges to consumers and the usability team designing and evaluating the systems. Lisa Mason describes the usability testing challenges faced when creating a world class user experience.
